Just so you know, this is my THIRD attempt at this post. My crazy possessed wireless connection keeps dropping so know now I'm sitting in some weird yoga position on my chair in an effort to better aim my computer to its wireless router. OY!
Lets get going here. BIG THANK YOU to Korey Lindberg for asking WHERE to sent photo contest pictures to! Can't believe I asked for pictures without giving an email address. You can forward any and all pictures to service@luckydogbiscuits.com and please put "photo contest" in the subject. Thanks.
Alright, Alright! You've been asking for dog food recipes...and one cat food recipe, which just means more people are looking for it but haven't asked yet. Thanks Amber. We will post a dog food recipe on Friday, May 11th and post it again on Monday May 13th. We'll then review the recipes and the information that goes with starting to make your own food for you dogs. Recipes for biscuits and cat food will follow a bit later. We'll review what ingredients you should use, what proportions, why these ingredients and how to feed and supplement. And of course why you would even consider doing this in the first place. If you're already feed a home made food, we'd love to hear how its going. And of course, if you have ANY questions, please ask.. because if you ask, that means there lots more people who are thinking the same thing.
For the rest of the week, we'll go over the ingredients we use in our biscuits and why we do. I'll also introduce you to my reasons for making dog biscuits and home made food, Ruben and Calvin. We'll also introduce Quinn Holtslag and Mavis McRae, partners in Holts Pets Inc. (actual company name that manufactures Lucky Dog Biscuits).
Lots of good stuff coming up. In the meantime, here are a few ingredients from Peanut Butter and Saskatoon Berry Biscuits. MMMMM!
Saskatoon Berries - the pride of the Canadian Prairies. That dark purple colour you see in our Saskatoon berries comes from and antioxidant called anthocyanin. The healthy benefits include improved brain function, decreased cognitive decline for older dogs, reduced inflammation and cancer prevention. Nice!
Apple Sauce - full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fibre. Apples contain the antioxidant quercitin, shown to reduce inflammation, protect the eyes and reduce the risk of some cancers. It also adds some natural sweetness to the biscuits for a yummy treat.
Natural Peanut Butter - and not the kind with all that added sugar, salt and other bad stuff. We use natural peanut butter; ground up peanuts - nothing more. Peanuts are a great source of protein, good fats for a shiny coat, and oodles of minerals especially selenium, which acts like an antioxidant to protect cells from damage caused by pollution and UV light.
Cinnamon - an ancient favorite for aiding in digestion and respiratory issues and dogs love it! Cinnamon has recently been found to lower blood sugar levels.
There you have it. Again, these are great ingredients to add to your home made food too but more on that next week.

Is Crash eligible to win the photo contest??? I really, really like these posts with the details about the ingredients. I did not know that about cinnamon. Does it work the same way for people? Oh, and a big shout out to Saskatoon berries because Crash and I are FROM SASKATOON!!
