Just when you thought that Lucky Dog Biscuits were the freshest, tastiest dog snacks on the market - we've come up with something even fresher!Bake it yourself frozen Lucky Dog Biscuit dough. Yup!
It might be a little extra work but you can now experience what we experience every time we bake. Hot out of the oven Lucky Dog Biscuits. Your dog will lose his/her mind over these! I know I do - so do the dogs. So here's the scoop.
It is the same great recipe, same fabulous ingredients but we have saved the baking for you. And no we are not just being lazy. We have our reasons.
First of all, Lucky Dog Biscuits have no preservatives so we have to dry them right down to that crunchy little morsel your dog knows and loves otherwise they get moldy - just like fresh (no preservative) bread. If we left them soft (i.e. moist) we would either have to put in preservatives to keep the mold out or ask you and the store owners to keep them frozen until use. But if you bake them yourself, you bake only what you can use in the next few weeks and there is no problem.
Reason number two (as if that last reason wasn't enough), you get to pick the size and shape of your treats. Maybe there is a special occasion like you want to bake heart-shaped biscuits for Valentine's Day. Maybe you are going over to a friend's house for Christmas and want to take his or her fur-baby a special gift. Nothing says lovin' like home baking. Or maybe you have a drawer full of cookie cutters that haven't been used since the 1980's and they are just screaming to be used. The choice is yours. We are just providing the medium for your baking creativity. No measuring, no bowls, no spoons to clean - just a pan and a rolling pin. Well in my case, a can of cooking spray and the counter, having lost my rolling pin and rolling mat somewhere in the deepest, darkest corner of my cupboards. At least I could find my cookie cutters - well one cookie cutter.
So here's the deal. You buy 3 lbs of frozen dough from your local pet store. Note: this isn't in stores yet but should be at least in Winnipeg in the next few weeks. Thaw the dough, take out what you need, roll, cut and bake. You can refreeze the rest of the dough. I've refrozen mine three times and it is still as good as the first set.
In the interest of being lazy, I also tried an alternative method. Rolling...
and pressing with a fork ginger snap style.
I thought of that one after I baked up a batch of our baker's "made for humans" frozen ginger snap dough. You have NO IDEA how good her cookie dough is! It is "six cookie in one sitting" good. It takes a gargantuan effort not to eat the dough straight out of the freezer on a daily basis.
By the way, please ignore the state of my baking pans. They are well used as you can see. I do have access to water and soap to clean but they have been the victims of a couple unfortunate burning episodes rendering soap and water virtually useless. The same goes for my oven. I had a picture of the cookies going into the oven but realized the state of my oven would make my mother's hair stand on end in horror if I displayed it in public - so no oven shot for you! As it is, she is probably reading this and mentally noting that I need baking sheets on my Christmas present list (which I don't - I like these ones).
Next step, pop your cookies in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. And voila...doggy love is yours tonight. Curly paced beside the oven for the last ten minutes of the bake. He knew he was in for some good eats.
Easy on the finger Cooper!
Needless to say, it is a hit around our house.
We are still in the final stages of packaging it up and getting it out there. What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? Alternatives? Let us know what you think. We are trying it out in Winnipeg and then releasing it to the rest of Canada.
How about it - just one more?? I'm skinny - I NEEEED one. Look - I can shake a paw.

I think this is a fabulous idea! This way (even though we will continue to purchase the already baked treats), if we're short on cash to buy the baked ones, we'll have frozen dough to make some! If human's can have frozen cookie dough, I don't see why dogs can't have it!
Thumbs up!
