It's time for my weekly hello from China. I got out for a little sightseeing on Friday. It was a bit of a rainy/misty day but it was still nice to see some new things. I tackled a couple new local bus routes in an effort to expand my usual range of travel.
First adventure was compliments of Bus #3, a cross-town bus that took me to Jiming Temple - complete with blooming plum trees.
I wandered around the streets in search of a market written up in Fodors but didn't find it. I was either on the wrong street or didn't walk far enough. But I did have a little buddy to keep me company. This little ragamuffin:
I'm not sure if he was a stray or just out for an adventure like me. He was pretty intent on a food finding mission though. There are a lot of dogs wandering around with no apparent owner in sight. These street wise pups usually stick to the sidewalks, skillfully dodge bikes and when necessary make breath taking dashes across the busy streets. It is tough to watch. I usually turn away but when I turn back, they are always safely hunting for food on the other side. It's amazing. I need to learn a few tricks from these dogs since my traffic dodging skills are vastly underdeveloped.
Next stop was Yuejiang Tower via bus #100. Bus #100 is the best entertainment in town. For 1 yuan (or $0.15) you can ride a double decker bus from one end of the city to the other. If you get on early, you might even get a seat.
Since most all of the information is Chinese the most I can tell you about the tower is that it is fairly new and you get a fantastic view from the top of the Yangtze River and the park below.
After our trip to the top of the tower, we walked back along the top of the old Nanjing City wall.
That's when I saw the Chinese version of an off-leash park, complete with card table and spectacular view. Now if only I had a dog with me.
I was tempted to buy one the other day when I saw this little face.
He was tiger-striped from head to toe and only 50 RMB or $7. I have NO IDEA what kind of dog he is. I've never seen anything like it. ah china, you are full of surprises.

OMG! That puppy is soooo cute!! So perplexing!!
Have fun!!

Press freedom in China has relatively loosened in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake in Sichuan, but the government is still heavy handed in directing the coverage.
